Educational Presentations
I offer a variety of informative and entertaining educational presentations that can be adapted for audiences ages 12 and older, for musicians and non-musicians alike.
“Thank you for coming. It was a great show. In talking to the kids, they were impressed with the musicianship. They have so little exposure to live music--so it was very good for them.” -(Academy of Philadelphia CS)
"I have heard nothing but overwhelming positive feedback from administrators, faculty and students. Thank you for making me look so good by proving the students with a quality presentation." -(Reading Fleming Intermediate School)
SAMPLE PRESENTATIONS
1) The Guitar/ Betcha Didn't Know... - The guitar is often perceived as an instrument that merely accompanies singers of contemporary popular music. This presentation shows audiences that there is much more to the guitar than what is experienced in most media. I demonstrate the difference between solo guitar performance and accompaniment using musical examples from around the world that span centuries. Past programs have included the following...
 18th century Baroque contrapuntal music
 Spanish -
Bolero
(Julian Arcas)
Brazilian - "Samba de Orfeu" (Antonio Maria/ Luiz Bonfa)
Jazz chord melody style - "If I Only Had a Brain" (from "The Wizard of Oz")
 Blues - (improvised)
1950s American (played Chet Atkins style) - "Mr. Sandman"
(appropriate for ages 12 to adult / 45-60 minutes)
2) An Overview of Jazz 1920s-60s - This dynamic presentation demonstrates the major developments in jazz music from 1920s through the 1960s. The emphasis is on the musical examples in order to give "life" to the history. (appropriate for ages 12 to adult)
3) Guitar Clinic/ Masterclass - Appropriate for High School or College guitar students who are pursuing a career in music.
