Educational Presentations
I offer a variety of educational presentations including assembly programs, clinics and master-classes. These informative and entertaining presentations can be adapted for audiences ages 12 and older, for musicians and non-musicians alike.
CURRENT PRESENTATIONS
1) An Overview of Jazz 1900-1960's - This presentation demonstrates the major developments in jazz music from 1900-1960's. The emphasis is on the musical examples in order to give "life" to the history. (appropriate for ages 12 to adult)
2) The Guitar/ Betcha Didn't Know... Coming soon (with sound samples)!!! - The guitar is often thought of as an instrument that merely accompanies singers of contemporary popular music. This presentation shows audiences that there is much more to the guitar than what is experienced in most media. I demonstrate the difference between solo guitar performance and accompaniment using musical examples from around the world that span centuries...
Spanish (tremelo style) - "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" (Tarrega)
American patriotic - "Stars & Stripes Forever" (John Phillip Sousa)
American - "My Old Kentucky Home" (Stephen Foster) - played Merle Travis-style
Baroque (1600-1725) - contrapuntal music (J.S. Bach or Domenico Scarlatti example)
Brazilian - "Samba de Orfeu" (Antonio Maria/ Luiz Bonfa)
American rag-time - "The Alligator Crawl" (Thomas "Fats" Waller) 1927
 Blues - "Kansas City"
Jazz chord melody style - applied to an American songbook standard (i.e. Irving Berlin, Gershwin, etc.)
